“Was that an earthquake?”

12:56 p.m. P wave detected.

When the ground shakes, you find out later from the news or an app, measured by a station miles away. What happened under your own home goes unrecorded.

Moho Tiny records the ground under your home, day and night. Next time, you can check for yourself or let Home Assistant turn it into automations.

Cutaway of the Earth: crust, the Moho boundary, mantle, outer core and inner core

What is the Moho.

Between Earth's crust and mantle runs a boundary called the Moho. In 1909, Andrija Mohorovičić spotted it by reading earthquake waves recorded at distant stations: some waves had dived into faster rock below the crust.

Moho Tiny is named after it. The same kind of waves that revealed the Moho reach your floor every day.

  1. Crust5–70 km thick
  2. The Mohothe boundary below the crust
  3. Mantlesolid rock that slowly flows, to 2,891 km
  4. Outer coreliquid iron, to 5,150 km
  5. Inner coresolid iron, 6,371 km down at the center

What Moho Tiny records.

This is a real recording from Panama on 9 October 2026. You see the ground's background hum, then the earthquake, with the P and S waves marked as they arrive.

Plug it in and connect it to Wi-Fi.

The sensor, electronics and Wi-Fi are in one compact box, so there's no Raspberry Pi to buy and nothing to assemble. Set it down and it starts measuring.

  • Your data stays in your Home Assistant
  • Ground-motion readings to graph and use in automations
  • API access
  • No subscription
  • Keeps working without internet

Cloud independent. Your data, locally safe by default.

Listen to the ground with the Moho Discovery app.

Put on headphones and a passing truck becomes a low rumble you can hear. Jump next to Moho Tiny and watch your stomp land on the meter. Open the quake log to look back at the events it recorded.

Inside: a geophone, tested and selected by our team.

At its heart is a geophone, the type of sensor used in professional seismic monitoring. Every sensor is tested and selected by our team before it ships, so what you see is real ground motion.

Made by people who've been building seismographs for over a decade.

Moho Tiny is the team's newest instrument, made so more people can explore real seismology at home, with an easier setup, a friendlier app and a lower price.

Frequently asked questions.

Is the $1 credited to my pledge?

No. The $1 reserves early access to the $149 VIP price; your pledge on Kickstarter is separate. You can ask for your $1 back at any time (terms).

Am I guaranteed the $149 price?

No. It goes to the first 200 reservers who claim it within 48 hours. If you miss it, reservers can still get $189 for 14 days (200 spots). The public Early Bird is $219.

When do I pay for the device?

Only when you back the project on Kickstarter, from February 16, 2027. Kickstarter charges backers when the campaign ends successfully.

Why do you ask for $1?

It shows us who is serious about Moho Tiny, so we can plan the first production run.

Which devices does the app run on?

The free Moho Discovery app is on Android today, and the iOS version is available at launch. With Home Assistant, you can also watch the ground from any browser.

Do reservers get anything special?

Yes. Every unit claimed by a reserver, at $149 or $189, gets a special engraving with its serial number. We'll share the design with reservers first.

What is it made of, and is there a warranty?

Every Kickstarter unit has a black anodized 6061 aluminum base, and every Moho Tiny comes with a 3-year warranty. An engraved black aluminum ring is available as an optional add-on on every tier.

Which email should I use?

The same one you use on Kickstarter, so we can match your reservation.

How is it different from a Raspberry Shake?

Everything is in one box, so there's no separate Raspberry Pi to buy and nothing to assemble.

Where does my data go?

You decide. Moho Tiny works locally and doesn't need a cloud account. With Home Assistant, your data stays in your own Home Assistant, and an API is available if you want to use it elsewhere.

Is Moho Tiny an earthquake alarm?

No. Moho Tiny measures and shows ground motion; it doesn't predict earthquakes or replace official alert systems. It's an instrument for curiosity and learning.

When will it ship?

Estimated delivery will be published on the campaign page.
